Sacrilege
Moving around the internet over the past few days, I came across this story from the Denver Post. Dawn Eden and The Curt Jester have provided a good deal of excellent commentary on this story, particularly in the nutty reaction of Dr. Ward (and I use the term "doctor" extremely loosely), the late-term abortion provider in the story.
So I was watching the news with my girlfriend last night, and going to a commercial, they "teased" with this story. I've been scouring the internet for a transcript or a download of this story to no avail...mainly because of what this guy said in the interview. The "doctor," in an outraged raving tone, called what this parish is doing a "sacrilege."
From dictionary.com - Desecration, profanation, misuse, or theft of something sacred.
Sacrilege? SACRILEGE? Apparently this isn't exactly a term they teach in med school. A sacrilege is outright murder. Sticking surical instruments in a baby's head and vacuuming out the contents is a sacrilege. Defining life by simply the mother's opinion is sacrilege. Put more succinctly - the entire pro-abortion movement is a complete sacrilege - a clear desecration, profanation, and misuse of something that is complete sacred, namely human life.
Giving thousands of murdered children the honor they deserve is NOT A SACRILEGE. In fact, it is 100% the opposite. The parishioners at Scared Heart get that life is sacred, and that it has been desecrated. They get that this is not a "blob of tissue" or "medical records" (as Dawn Eden points out). They are honoring those lives, they are trying to provide healing for those that went through with the abortion.
How warped does one's moral code have to be to see abortion as a good thing, and a burial service for these murdered children as a bad thing. I was so stunned by this comment in the interview that I was quiet for a good period of time, trying to contain the rage I felt at that from bursting through. I wonder if it's this type of situation that Isaiah was talking about when he said "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who change darkness into light, and light into darkness, who change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter!" (Is 5:20)
Needless to say, Sacred Heart of Mary Church is doing something extremely important, and I think that we need to do whatever we can to aid that parish in continuing this work, and hopefully some other parishes across the country will do the same thing in their areas. Please email your support to the parish (please note that is the listen email address for the parish secretary. That seems to be the most logical address listed on their site. Someone please let me know if there's a better address to use.). Please continue praying for this parish and the good work that they are doing, for the babies who will not know the life God planned for them, for all mothers that have gone through or are considering an abortion, and especially pray for the individuals that perform this travesty.
I so wish that I could go to the March for Life tomorrow. If it weren't for a business trip for the new job, I would be there in a heartbeat.
