SAD (Self Assured Destruction)

I've seen this suggestion thrown around a bit over the course of the last election year.

"Abortion has caused missing Democrats--and missing liberals. For advocates so fundamentally committed to changing the face of conservative America, liberals have been remarkably blind to the fact that every day the abortions they advocate dramatically decrease their power to do so. Imagine the number of followers that their abortion policies eliminate who, over the next several decades, would have emerged as the new liberal thinkers, voters, adherents, fund-raisers and workers for their cause."

I think the author may make a few assumptions that are a little hazy with the statistics presented, but overall, I think this suggestion that abortion is causing a significant demographic shift to the right is rather sound. I'm not so sure that it's absolutley played some role in the 2000 and 2004 elections, but drawn out longer term, I think it could cause some serious problems for the left in the US.
